Here at Steven M. Stern, DDS, PC, we want you to have the best experience possible and want to share with you some of the most frequently asked questions from our patients.
What is endodontics?
Endodontics is a specialized branch of dentistry recognized by the American Dental Association (ADA) that involves the treatment of the pulp (root canal) and the surrounding tissues of the tooth.
What about infection?
If left untreated, the inside of the tooth may die and become a source of infection which can spread outside the mouth. It can result in serious pain and hospitalization.
We adhere to rigorous standards of infection control as advocated by OSHA, the Centers for Disease Control, and the American Dental Association. We utilize autoclave sterilization and barrier techniques to eliminate any risk of infection.
Is a root canal painful?
When people hear “‘root canal,” they usually think about pain. However, a root canal is done to eliminate the pain a patient is already feeling. The pain is usually caused by the infection in the tooth and not the root canal treatment. The procedure itself is painless. A local anesthetic numbs the tooth and the surrounding area.
